Break the Silence Project

I can’t remember when or where I first heard of the fantastic Break the Silence Project, but it has given incredible exposure to my short film, The Birthday Gift.

The Break the Silence project encourages the exploration of issues surrounding sexual violence through creative means in order to promote self-expression, to provide a possibility for healing and community-building, and to further raise public awareness and dialogue on these subjects. This is what I wanted to accomplish with my own film, so the collaboration was perfect. More people viewed my film on the website than at all the festivals it played, combined.

The internet has truly become an important tool for writers and filmmakers to market themselves and get their work out there. With just a click of a button, readers and viewers can have complete access to your work, which makes it easier for word of mouth to spread. It is one of the best ways to showcase writing and films, and the perfect promotional tool. I strongly urge all writers and filmmakers to look at online journals and websites showcasing short films, to help get their work out there.
